Swansea boss Francesco Guidolin has confirmed the club are close to bolstering their ranks with a new defender.
The Swans have yet to replace former skipper Ashley Williams, who joined Everton in a £12million deal, but it looks as though they are close to landing their man.
Guidolin would not go into too much detail over who could be arriving at the Liberty Stadium, but speaking after the 3-1 victory over Peterborouh in last night’s EFL Cup, he did say progress is being made.
“Yes, I think we are close, but the transfer market has not finished,” the Italian revealed when quizzed about potential signings. “We are working on this.”
Guidolin said last week that the club have drawn up a short-list of “five, six, seven players” that includes defenders from his native Italy, and it now looks as though that list has been narrowed down.
The Swans boss says his squad will be complete once he has landed a new central defender and hopes to have someone on board well before next week’s deadline.
